“Long live May 3…”. National anniversaries’ celebrations in Lublin in the years of 1915–1918 in the light of local press

During the Russian rule in the territory of the Kingdom of Poland, all the activities of the Polish population aimed at patriotic nature, such as celebrations commemorating historical events and figures, were forbidden. Despite the temporary thaw in the years 1905–1907, significant transformations in this matter took place only with the evacuation of the Russians in the summer of 1915, and then the takeover of power by the armed forces of the states central. Austrians by virtue of their attempts to improve relations with the occupied population introduced many freedoms in the sphere of culture and education, incl. allowing organizing public national celebrations. In Lublin, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian occupation, a series of celebrations took place, the nature of which evolved along with the conditions political, changing its form and size.W okresie panowania rosyjskiego na terenie Królestwa Polskiego wszelkie działania ludności polskiej o charakterze patriotycznym, takie jak obchody upamiętniające wydarzenia i postacie historyczne, były zakazane. Mimo chwilowej odwilży w latach 1905–1907, znaczące przeobrażenia w tej kwestii nastąpiły dopiero wraz z ewakuacją Rosjan latem 1915 r., a następnie przejęciem władzy przez wojska państw centralnych. Austriacy z racji podejmowanych prób poprawienia stosunków z okupowaną ludnością wprowadzili wiele swobód w sferze kulturalnej i oświatowej, m.in. zezwalając na organizowanie publicznych obchodów o charakterze narodowym.
